Task Description

HI-TEC, a global footwear company, requires a further 22 icon designs to add to the 3 they purchased in the HI-TEC Icon Set Design Phase 1 contest on DesignBay. This is phase 2 of HI-TEC''s Icon Set Design project.
HI-TEC would like 1 foot shape icon (that works within the template attached and the style adopted from the designs purchased in phase 1) and then 22 variations on this basic footshape icon for 14 technology icons and 8 feature icons (see below for descriptions).
If you do not want to create all 22 icons, you can submit a
shorter subset of 10 icons (shortlist below) to demonstrate your
footshape (which is the most important aspect). However, if selected,
you will be expected to complete the remaining designs (variations on
that footshape to receive the full first place payment). 10 suggested
key icons: (5x Technology icons: #1 Comfortec, #6 Custom Fit, #10 M Pact, #12 Waterproof, #13 Anti-Bac PLUS 5x Feature Icons #1 Wide Fit, #4 Side Zip #5 Circular Side Zip, #6 Composite Toe, #8 Breathable).
The core footshape icon should be the same across all icons (whether
technology or feature icon) and should also conform to the color scheme
and style created in phase 1 (see below). An example of Adidas' footshape icon can be seen on their website here
(view their feature icons by selecting different parts of the Adidas golf shoe). Adidas use
color well to highlight what part of the foot the feature is benefiting
or related to. (Obviously you are in no way to replicate or copy
Adidas!)
Technology Icons with Foot Shape x 12
Technology icons have a basic grey circle (including the icon) and some text of the technology name in an encapsulated, rounded rectangle (as per XcM and Winter Traction example icons below).
- Comfortec
Description: Footbed system follows a good better and best system from basic moulded footbed to
customisable footbed through use of innovative/adaptive materials. Rework logos here to fit with style of above.
Design direction: Footshape with color highlighting the basic moulded footbed.
- Comfortec Plus – Design direction: as above plus this has heel cushioning
- Comfortec Custom - Design direction: as above plus this has memory foam to customise fit underneath foot
- Thermo-Dri
Description: Insulated and waterproof upper – keeps you warm and dri!
Design direction: Simple foot shape showing insulated and rain protected layer. Use text.
- Insu-Lite Shell
Description: Insulation technology on upper of shoe. Prevents heat from escaping to keep the feet warm.
Design direction: As above without the rain element. Use text.
- Custom Fit
Description: Custom fitting shoe inserts. Thin piece of material put under the footbed inside the shoe to adjust the width fitting.
Design direction: Show footshape being wider or narrower (perhaps with arrows)
- Dri-Tec
Description: our in house membrane system
Design direction: Footshape with colour highlighting the membrane layer and 3 droplets (potentially also highlighted with colour). Should also have 1 droplet inside the D of Dri-Tec (using the same droplet and style of droplet as with the current Dri-Tec logo - attached JPG to brief below). We want to keep some consistency with the droplet inside the ''D'' in the Dri-Tec icon. Add the text "Waterproof" under the main Dri-Tec encapsulated logo (using Galant text as per XcM example).
- Tecproof
Overview: Tecproof is waterproof but does not use a membrane and is at a more basic level than Dri-Tec
Design direction: Use footshape with same 3 waterdrops as Dri-Tec (but do not show / highlight the membrane layer). Add "Waterproof" under the Tecproof name
- Trek-Lite
Overview: Lightweight EVA midsole material. The ‘chassis’ that supports your feet between the outsole rubber and your foot!
Design direction: Footshape with midsole section of boot highlighted.
- M-PACT
Overview: Shock absorbing material used in heel of walking boots.
Design direction: Footshape with heel highlighted (perhaps in the same way as the midsole was highlighted for Trek-Lite)
- Abrazone
Overview: Tough abrasion resistant materials.
Design direction: Show toe area of shoe with added protection from abrasion.
- Waterproof
Overview: Waterproof footwear
Design direction: Show foot shape with water drops to signify waterproof. Droplet should be in the shape of the droplet from our ion mask icon set here.
- Quick Dry
Overview Quicker drying footwear
Design direction Footshape showing evaporation
- Anti-bac
Overview Anti-bacterial lining.
Design direction Footshape showing protection all around (possibly glow of protection)
Feature Icons with Foot Shape x 8
- Wide fit
Overview: Current logo shown on attachment. Logo to show wider fitting shoes!
Design direction: Footshape showing arrows moving out to signify wider fit.
- Standard fit
Overview: Normal Fit logo.
Design direction: As above but with arrows facing other way.
- Extended sizes
Overview: Logo to depict styles that are available in extreme sizes eg US 15, US 16, US17 etc
Design direction: Footshape with arrow pointing from toe to different lengths.
- Side-Zip
Overview: Zip on the side…
Design direction: Footshape with zip up the side of the ankle. See the attached photo for example of side zip.
- Circular Side-Zip
Overview: Circular zip on the side.
Design direction: Footshape with zip curving up the side of the ankle. Curve to be towards heel not toe.
- Composite toe
Overview: Lightweight toe protection made from composite plastic materials. Better than steel.
Design direction:
Footshape with highlighted toe protection. Need to distinguish between
composite/plastic material and steel (as below on next feature).
Composite is a higher spec material than steel. And lighter.
- Steel toe
Overview: Footshape with toe protection made from steel.
Design direction: As above with steel.
- Breathable
Overview: Breathable footwear
Design direction:
Show footshape with arrows to signify airflow. Alternatively
incorporate ion-mask breathability logo into system shape with system
text.
These icons should conform to the style / template created by phase 1. Consistency is very important.
Technology Icon Examples / Style from Phase 1

Feature Icon Style / Example from Phase 1

Please note:
- The use of grey
- The way the icons touch / break the grey circles
- That technology icons use encapsulated text and different fonts to the feature icons
- Technology icons may have tagline-like words underneath the main icon
- You do not have to include the text for each icon in this phase when you submit, but it will help if you do. If you
do choose to add the feature/technology names to the icons, you must use the fonts as per phase 1 (see Nice to Have requirements below)
For this phase, in addition to the colour grey, you may use 1 extra colour to
highlight the specific feature or technology. For example, for toe
protection, you may use a yellow rectangle over the toe part of the
foot to highlight that is the focus of the feature. The colour and
application is up to you.
If you were not involved in Phase 1 of this project, please see the attached brief HI-TEC Icon Set Design Phase 1 contest on DesignBay for further explanation of how technology icons and feature icons differ.

Updates
- Please note there are two additional footshape technology icons required. Please see Quick Dry and Anti-Bac above.
|
Requirements
Must Have:
- A footshape within each icon
- A footshape that extends up the ankle
- The styles and colours as per the templates. There are two styles - one for technology icons and one for feature icons
- Make the primary color of the icon white and make it connect or touch with the circle
- Use a single colour to highlight part of the foot that is relevant to each feature or technology
- The ability to use any of the icons in greyscale/monotone only. Any color highlights should have a monotone/B&W version.
Nice to Have:
- A consistent footshape style / orientation across all 20 icons
- A sense of motion to the foot or some dynamic aspect. Could use shading / a 3D foot / the foot positioned so it is pushing off
- The
footshape and/or any other part of the icon should 'break' or 'touch' the border of the grey circle (as per the stretch fit and
XcM logos from phase 1)
- The text of the feature /
technology nameto the right of the main icon (if you have the fonts).
This is not compulsory. i.e. you can still submit if you don't have
the fonts, although it would help as names can be applied in different
ways.
- The correct fonts when you apply the text:
- For technology logos - Spin Cycle Italic encapsulated in grey border (as per XcM example logo) with GALANT font used for any text underneath the logo
- For feature icons - Gotham Black 36pt for the main name and Gotham Book in 18pt for any secondary words (as per Fit in Stretch Fit example from phase 1)
- Designs that follow the design direction provided for each icon
- Use a single colour (possibly the yellow used in this HI-TEC icon design submission from phase 1), rather than multiple colors, across all your footshape icons in this series
- Small taglines for technology logos (using the GALANT font mentioned above) to help communicate the benefit. Only use this where you think the name of the technology does not communicate the benefit (e.g. with XcM).
Should Not Have:
- Toes or detail in the icon
- Footprints
- Boots or shoes (the core icon should be a foot and ankle)
- Adidas' or other footwear brands' foorshapes or icons
- Clipart, stock or copied intellectual property
